The  Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine of Ireland   was  established   in  2008   by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, the College of Anaesthetists and the Intensive Care Society of Ireland. The  Joint Faculty   remit is 1) to  develop traininig programmes  for physicians, surgeons and anaesthetists with an interest in intensive care. 2) to agree entry requirements for courses/programmes and examinations and agree duration of training and training units. 3)  Support continuous professional developement of intensive care medicine specialists 4) to develop a system of visitation/accreditation for intensive care units wishing to  train post-graduate doctors in intensive care medicine, 5) to advise on matters relating to intensive care medicine.
